The first championship class of the week at the British Showjumping National Championships 2023 in the UNIBED Championship Arena 2 today was the National Pony 1.15m Members Cup Final. The championship title went to Deeleigh Ramsey riding Craughwell Boy. Deeleigh commented, “We were second last to go in the jump off and I was really pleased with how he jumped. I’ve had him for 3 years and he’s been taking me round the 1.15m jumps nicely.”
Over in the Tack & Tailor Championship Arena 1 was the Pony Bronze League 148cm & Under Final. Claiming the title with a fantastic round was Winchester-based Madeleine Waughman riding her 15-year-old pony Argentinium Silver. ‘‘The round went really well, we struggled at the beginning of the year but as the season went on things just got better and better. Silver is a superstar, he would never do anything naughty, he’s one very special pony!’’
Evie Evans and Trevor H conquered the Pony Restricted Rider 1.00m Championship Final in UNIBED Championship Arena 2 with a clear round. The surrey-based competitor commented, ‘’Considering I was terrified before I entered the ring my round went well, I decided last minute to do an inside turn, I thought I had nothing to lose! Trevor has competed at HOYS and Bolesworth and now had success at the Nationals.’’
Next was the Pony Silver League 148cm & Under Final in the UNIBED Championship Arena 2. Taking the title for the second-year running was Wrexham-based Ellie Koscinska riding Carole Jones’ Ganty Wills Girl. Ellie commented, ‘’I think it went amazing, the pony’s proven to me she’s very fast and competitive in the jump off, I had every hope that she would do well. I was early in the draw so I didn’t know how the result would go, but she definitely pulled it out the bag.” She continued, “We have a HOYS qualifier next week, so we’ve got our fingers crossed.”
Tabitha Kyle and Atomic Du Bary, based in Leicester, conquered the National 148cm Championship Final in the UNIBED Championship Arena 2 with a clear round. Tabitha had a successful day with three high placings in this class, 1st, 5th and 10th. ‘’the first round was technical but not built too big, the jump off was technical with big uprights but was an enjoyable course allowing people to have fun around it. My pony is a little pocket rocket! He’s the most kind and successful pony I have at the moment, secretly my favourite!’’
The last class in the day in the Tack & Tailor Championship Arena 1 saw Isla Brown riding 12-year-old Kilcranathan Princess take home the Pony Bronze League 128cm Final. “She really took control of the round, down the long side to number 6 I didn’t think she was going to make the turn as it was a bit quick. This is our first big win together, we’ve just moved up to 80/90 so I’m really happy.” Isla explained.
Concluding the day in UNIBED Championship Arena 2 was the Pony Bronze League 138cm & Under Final. Darcie Nobles and Wainfelin Starlight (Missy) were crowned champions with a fantastic clear round. The Dorset-based rider said, “Going into the ring, I didn’t know if I should take the turn or not. She hadn’t touched anything so I knew she could get the height on the turn.”
